Yorkshire v Kent

KENT took two wickets in the space of four balls, but it was just about their only positive action of the fourth and final morning of this LV Championship match in Scarborough.

The ponderous heavy roller at the North Marine Road ground has taken any semblance of life out of the pitch and the game will trundle to an inevitable draw at a similar pace come Saturday tea time.

Replying to Kent's 486 all out, their highest total at this famous sea-side venue, Yorkshire moved on from their overnight score of 208 for two to reach 340 for four come the lunch break.

It was the second new ball, taken after 80 overs, which helped Ryan McLaren nip out two Tykes batters in an over with the home score on 262.

Century-maker Anthony McGrath was first to go for an excellent 120 from 218 balls, back in defence to the third ball with the new 'cherry' he edged to Geraint Jones to end a stand worth 112 in 18 overs with Younis Khan.

Three balls later left-hander Jacques Rudolph followed one going across his body and edged low to James Tredwell at first slip.

With Andrew Hall off the field and out of the game with a stomach strain, Kent were further hampered when Simon Cook, who started the day with a no ball before conceding successive boundaries to Khan, went off for a couple of overs to strap up his knees having forgotten to do before the start.

On the cusp of lunch Khan reached his 27th first-class hundred with a single off Joe Denly's leg-spin and, in reaching three figures from 131 balls, also ensured Yorkshire had saved the follow-on.
