Barnsley 1 - 0 Gillingham

GILLINGHAM'S wretched away form continued as they were beaten by a single goal during their League 1 match at Barnsley on Tuesday night.

Chris Shuker's 15th minute strike separated the sides on an evening that offered little in the way of entertainment.

Even the return of Darren Byfield failed to change Gills' luck on the road, leaving them still searching for a first away win of the season.

Gillingham's efforts were rare and after Barnsley had opened the scoring the game lost pace with few chances coming from either team.

Michael Flynn had an effort just before the break which went just over the bar, while the Gills came close to levelling before the end, when substitute Gavin Grant glanced a header narrowly wide.

Gillingham: Brown, Clohessy (Shields 87), Jackman, Sancho, Johnson, Crofts, Wallis (Pouton 71), Flynn, Spiller, Byfield (Grant 71), Harris.
Subs Not Used: Crichton, Hope.
Attendance: 7,090.
