New men shine for ice champs

MEDWAY'S ice hockey team, Invicta Dynamos, fired an early warning on Sunday that they will not relinquish their English National Hockey League (South) crown without a fight.

Their opening game of the new season saw them thrash Slough Hawks 15-2 with new signings making quite an impact.

After Slough took a surprise lead, defenceman Alex Shaw scored on his league debut and Peter Carey and Dan Fudger (2) gave the Mos a 4-1 first period lead.

In the second another debutant forward Mike Allaby opened his account, before Stuart Lowe, AJ Smith and Gary Dodds made it 8-2. Slough pulled one back, but Carey ensured Invicta had the last say of the period.

Allaby completed his debut hat-trick in the third and there were further goals from Shaw, James Lake, Matt Drake and Andy Martin, while Lowe was named player-of-the-match.
