Gillingham manager Martin Allen doesn’t care for reputations.

On Saturday, the Gills meet a Wolverhampton Wanderers side who were playing Premier League football just 15 months ago.

Wolves have been English league champions three times, FA Cup winners four times and League Cup winners twice. But at the weekend, Allen’s Gillingham side face Wolves in League 1 as equals at Molineux.

He said: “It will be a fantastic occasion for all of us and I will be proud when I see our players walking out there.

“But we aren’t going there for an exhibition game. I suppose they are going to be thinking ‘this is going to be an easy walkover’ but everyone knows what can happen."

He added: “We certainly aren’t going up there to take any photographs, or swap shirts. We are going to have a go, play our way, get after them and get on it.

“What a great place to go and play, and show what we can do. You have to respect them as a football club but when it comes to Saturday afternoon, we have a job to do.

“They have a great history, great players and a great past but it’s about today and tomorrow. It’s their first home game of the season and what a great place to go.”
