Pardew determined to end City Ground hoodoo

Nottingham Forest v Charlton

Alan Pardew wants his players to make amends as Charlton return to the scene of one of his worst defeats at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

On their previous appearance at the City Ground in January last year - within weeks of Pardew taking charge - the Addicks produced a woeful performance as Forest bundled them out of the FA Cup 2-0 at the third round stage.

The memory of that afternoon still haunts the Addicks boss. He said: "I walked away from the City Ground that night very, very disappointed. It was a real worry.

"I have to admit the City Ground is not a happy hunting ground for me as I lost there to a late goal when I managed West Ham. So I’m determined to get something there on Saturday."

Of the starting 11 that lost on the club’s last appearance at Forest, only Jonathan Fortune, Matt Holland and Darren Ambrose are likely to be involved on Saturday.

Pardew would not be drawn on whether Charlton will be unchanged for a third straight game following Tuesday’s first away win of the season at Doncaster.

“This will be our third game in a week and maybe we’ll need fresh legs,” he said. “We are close to being settled and the core of the team is getting stronger.”

China captain Zheng Zhi is still not 100 per cent fit after sustaining an injury in training but Pardew expects him to be available for the home game against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday week.
