JON WALLIS, one of five players released by Gillingham at the end of the season, admits he was surprised by the club's decision to let him go.

However, the 20-year-old hopes a possible move to Hereford United will give him the chance to play some regular football.

He is due to meet manager Graham Turner to discuss terms and could be joined at Edgar Street by Richard Rose, who also left Priestfield in May.

Wallis said: "When I was told about being released it was a bit depressing. I wasn’t playing in my best position and the manager knew that but he didn’t fancy me in midfield.

"I’m 20 now and I want to be playing, I don’t want to be playing reserve football for a League 1 side."
