Royal ceremony ends great season for Kent's women

A PRESENTATION ceremony at Buckingham Palace crowned a triumphant year for Kent’s women cricketers.

Charlotte Edwards led her Kent team to receive specially-struck silver medals from Prince Philip, patron and 12th man of the Lord’s Taverners, for winning the Liverpool Victoria County Championship.

The ceremony was organised by the Lord’s and Lady Taverners, the presenters of the men’s and women’s county championship trophies.

Kent women, who are sponsored by SeaFrance, won the title for the first time and shared the royal occasion with Sussex, winners of the men’s championship.

The squad was Edwards, Penny Arnold, Emily Drumm, Laura Boorman, Marsha Davies, Jo Watts, Natalie Lane (all Hartley Invicta Ladies), Lynsey Askew, Lydia Greenway (Hayes Hurricane Ladies), Laura Thompson, Emma Plush (The Mote Ladies), and Hazel Lovegrove (Holmesdale Ladies).

Mike Gatting, president of the Lord’s Taverners, presented medals to Kent Women’s coach Alan Duncan, manager Malcolm Ings, and scorer Jane Sweaney, and Colin Rowe, father of Kent player Suzie Rowe, who is studying for a sports degree is in the United States.

Edwards said: "It was a brilliant day for our girls and great to receive our special county championship medals. Now all we have to do is to make sure we win it again."
