SIMON ROYCE’S penalty save earned Gillingham a point on Friday but he knows there’s still plenty of work to do.

“We haven’t pulled up any trees yet,” he said. “We’re still down there and battling hard. Our home form is excellent and on Tuesday we play Doncaster who are another excellent footballing side and this will count for nothing if we get beaten.”

Royce saved Andy Robinson’s injury time spot-kick but as ever was remaining modest.

He said: “When the referee gave the penalty I just thought this is just our luck. When you’re a goalkeeper and you face a penalty you just try and guess the right way, luckily for me I guessed the right way.

“After saving it and it went straight back to him, you think, ‘oh here we go’. But he fluffed it. The ball got stuck under his feet a bit and he managed to roll it straight into my arms.”
