Saturday football round-up

TONBRIDGE ANGELS came out on top in the big Kent derby against Ashford Town in Ryman League Division 1 at Homelands on Saturday.

First half goals from Ray Powell and debutant Jon Main gave Angels a deserved two goal lead.

But a flurry of goals just after the break threatened to turn the game on its head.

Two goals in 90 seconds by Adrian Stone, the second a superb shot from the edge of the area, pulled Town level, but all their good work was undone two minutes after that when Main scored his second for Tonbridge.

It was no more than Tonbridge, who also hit the post, deserved as they continue their title bid.

One of their main rivals for that title, Ramsgate, produced one of their best displays of the season in thrashing Molesey 7-1 at Southwood.

Jim Ward's side were four goals up after just 18 minutes as they put the visitors to the sword. The goals were shared around but Shaun Welford and Ollie Schulz both bagged a brace.

In the same division, Cray Wanderers suffered a 2-0 home defeat to Hastings United.

In the Ryman League Premier Division, Folkestone Invicta went down to a 2-1 defeat against Hampton & Richmond Borough at the Buzzlines Stadium, despite Mark Saunders giving them the lead with his first goal for the club.

It was better news for Bromley who took all three points from their trip to Maldon Town after second half goals from Elis Remy and Sam Wood.

And Berti Brayley's 70th minute strike earned Margate a share of the points with a 2-2 draw at Slough Town. Gate had earlier led through a Mark Avery own goal.

Sittingbourne got themselves a draw from their Southern League Division 1 East clash against Harlow Town at Bourne Park when Bradley Spice netted 14 minutes from time.

And Dartford also took a point from their trip to Waltham Forest. An Anthony Henry goal and an own goal earned Tony Burman's side a 2-2 draw.

However, Chatham Town's recent drop in form continued with a 1-0 home defeat against Stamford Rangers.
