Shaw fires Gills to top of table

Gillingham 1 Derby County 0

A GRITTY performance by the whole team saw Gillingham beat Derby County at Priestfield last night and go top of Division 1.

Paul Shaw got the goal after 15 minutes, but Guy Ipoua and Mamady Sidebe were the stars of the show. Their aerial aggression and pace put the frighteners on the Rams defence from the kick-off.

Both were guilty of missing chances, but the openings they created and the partnership they have quickly forged bodes well for the Gills.

With six points from their first two games and no goals conceded - not a bad start for a team the bookies believe are relegation fodder.
