ALAN CURBISHLEY: Wants to sign two more players before the season starts

CHARLTON season ticket sales are booming with figures up by more than 300 on the corresponding time last year.

With the Barclaycard Premiership season kicking off on August 14, sales have already topped the 20,000 mark and could hit the maximum 22,300 as supporters respond at the ticket office to the club’s high level of activity in the transfer market.

Charlton have already clinched the signings of goalkeeper Stephan Anderson from FC Copenhagen, Moroccan international central defender Talal el Karkouri from Paris St Germain, midfielder Bryan Hughes from Birmingham and £2m winger Dennis Rommedahl from PSV Eindhoven.

With manager Alan Curbishley predicting the signings of another two players by the end of August, speculation persists the club are poised to unveil a prolific new striker in time for the start of the next campaign.

Curbishley said: “I still want another two.” Should Charlton get their men, the sale of season tickets are sure to be stimulated still further.

Charlton club development officer, Ian Cartwright, said: "We sold 21,000 last season and are confident we will have sold well in excess of that figure by the time the new season kicks off. We’re a good 300 in front of what we sold this time last year. The bus advertising campaign has proved a big success while the various satellite supporters’ club branches have been busy promoting sales.

“Obviously, the new signings have got people talking and with rumours of more to come, we could move even closer to our maximum of 22,300. These are exciting times at the Valley which is being reflected in ticket sales.”
