Gillingham v Luton

GILLINGHAM midfielder Nicky Southall looks set to miss tonight's home match with Luton in League 1.

The 36-year-old, who replaced Mark Bentley in the side at Oldham, came off on Saturday with a hamstring injury midway through the second half.

Gills manager Mark Stimson admitted: “Nicky Southall felt his hamstring so we had to change it around a bit.”

Stimson expects Dennis Oli to be fit after he also came off at Oldham, while Mark Bentley (ankle) is unlikely to be risked.

Lowly Luton visit Priestfield on the back of a 4-1 home defeat to fellow strugglers Bournemouth but Stimson is refusing to underestimate the challenge.

“It’s going to be another tough game,” he said. “They are another team like ourselves who are down the bottom.

“I’ve told the players that they’ve got to make it happen as they might not have the supporters with them, and I understand that.

“We are in a position we shouldn’t be in so they’ve got to go out there from the first whistle and earn the right to play, and earn the result.

“If they get that, they’ll have all the supporters backing them.

“At the start of the season, Luton were one of the favourites to go all the way but unfortunately with the financial situation at the club they’ve lost a lot of players.

“Having said that, they’ve still got some good ones and it’s not going to be easy.”
