Southern League Division 1 East round-up

CHATHAM Town claimed an impressive 3-1 win over Southern League Division 1 East promotion rivals Rothwell at Maidstone Road on Saturday.

The victory means Chatham have now done the double over Rothwell and replace them in third place.

The home side took the lead just before the break when Matt Bourne netted from Matt Solley's corner.

Brendan Cass made up for an earlier penalty miss when he doubled the advantage.

Rothwell pulled one back in the 89th minute from the penalty spot after Glenn Billeness had handled in the box but there was still time for substitute Byron Walker to restore the two-goal cushion.

Chats boss Steve Binks said: “It was a good win and our first double of the season. Steve Searle and Matt Solley were fantastic in the middle of the park and ran the show."

Dartford also enjoyed a good victory away at Potters Bar Town, returning home with the points after a 4-1 win.

Darts were firmly in control after two goals in as many minutes midway through the first half. Ian Pulman gave them the lead before Steve Hafner doubled the advantage with a spectacular long-range lob.

The home side pulled one back just before the break, but Dartford gave themselves breathing space when Eddie McClements netted with 15 minutes to go. Hafner's second completed the scoring at the death.

Meanwhile, Sittingbourne suffered a heavy 6-2 defeat at the hands of Stamford in front of the biggest crowd of the day in the division.

The Brickies had not beaten Saturday's opponents in nine previous matches and four goals from Garath Pritchard ensured that run was extended to 10.

It started brightly for the visitors when Lee Browning gave them the lead, but two goals from Pritchard and one from Elton Holmes put Stamford 3-1 up before the break.

A further two goals from Pritchard and a Shane Bird strike made the score 6-1 before Bradley Spice scored a late consolation for Sittingbourne.
