Southern League Division 1 East preview

SKIPPER Steve Best returns to boost Chatham Town on Saturday at Uxbridge as they bid to bounce back from last week’s defeat by Southern League Division 1 East leaders Boreham Wood.

Best has recovered from a knee problem and resumes in midfield, but Chats are still without Steve Searle, who is two weeks away from recovering from an ankle injury sustained at Sittingbourne.

Glenn Billenness is unavailable through work commitments so Israel Amadi could start. Striker Rob Denness remains out of the reckoning with a broken wrist.

Although Chats lost 3-0 at Boreham Wood, manager Steve Binks insists it was not a drubbing.

He said: "The difference between the two clubs is that they took their chances and we didn’t. If we weren’t creating chances then I would be worried."

Uxbridge, who are third from bottom of the Southern League Division 1 East, lost 1-0 at second-place Waltham Forest on Tuesday.

Having lost twice in the last week to sides below them, Sittingbourne are hoping it will be third time lucky when they take on Ilford at Bourne Park on Saturday.

The Foxes lie directly below the Brickies in the table on goal difference but have not won in five games and lost their unbeaten home record in midweek.

Lee Browning is available for selection after injury but Dan Tanner (ankle), Mark Lovell (knee) and Dan Edwards (knee) are still missing.

Dartford midfielder Eddie McClements is likely to miss Saturday's trip to Stamford after sustaining a thigh injury in the midweek draw with Barking & East Ham United.
