MARK STIMSON has expressed his amazement that Gillingham let Danny Jackman leave.

Jackman took the man of the match award for Northampton after controlling the game from midfield during Gillingham's 4-0 defeat.

The 25-year-old played 79 games for the Gills over a two-year period but rejected the opportunity to extend that stay last summer.

Stimson said: "It's amazing and embarrassing how he was allowed to leave the club. I've seen the kid play a couple of times and he looks a hell of a player.

"He looks like my kind of player. He's got great enthusiasm and he gets around the pitch. He's someone who was let go for nothing and I said to the chairman that it's amazing.

"But that happened and he was a thorn in the side. He's one of those players you would love around you because you know he's going to give 100 per cent every week."
