Stimson values Jackson at more than £1m

Simeon Jackson could attract interest in the transfer window

Gillingham boss Mark Stimson has revealed he would hold out for a transfer fee in excess of £1million – if he was forced to sell striker Simeon Jackson.

The former Stevenage boss bought the striker for £150,000 from non-league Rushden in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old has scored 10 goals this season and could attract interest from other clubs when the latest window opens next month.

“We’ll have to face that if it does happen,” admitted Stimson. “He’s a goalscorer and that’s the hardest thing to do in this game. He is comfortable in that area of the pitch and nine times out of 10 goalscorers are the ones who get all the glory and get bought.

“If someone offers you good money then the chairman and myself might have to sit down and say that could be the way forward. It’d have to be a hell of a lot of money to let Jackson go because I think he’s got at least another 10 goals in him before the end of the season. There aren’t many players out there who can guarantee you that.”

Jackson was rewarded for his impressive form in League 2 this season when he received a call-up to the senior Canada team in November.

Stimson believes his value is increasing all the time and added: “What my value is and the chairman’s is wouldn’t be far off.

“He’s an international and is only 21. Simeon has got everything in front of him and I wouldn’t even take £1million. But again it comes down to finances, situations and timings of everything.”
