CHARLTON have completed the signing of Dutch international striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink on a free transfer from Middlesbrough.

The 34-year-old underwent a medical at The Valley on Monday after agreeing personal terms over the weekend.

Addicks head coach Iain Dowie is delighted with his new recruit and the club hope he can form a lethal strike partnership with England international Darren Bent.

Dowie told the club's official website: "It's a big signing for us. There were a lot of big clubs after him, let's make no bones about that.

"To get the first big signing over the line is very important for us. And he's a big one. We're delighted to have him."

Hasselbaink is seventh on the all-time list of Premiership goalscorers having netted 125 goals in 263 appearances for Leeds United, Chelsea and Middlesbrough.
