CHARLTON and Everton played out a dour goalless draw at The Valley on Saturday.

Neither goalkeeper was made to work hard enough as the Addicks missed the presence of top scorer Darren Bent, who was rested ahead of the FA Cup quarter-final replay in midweek.

Thomas Myhre did have to tip over a fierce drive from James Beattie, while Richard Wright almost gifted Charlton an opener when he misjudged the bounce of Hermann Hreidarsson's long clearance but scrambled back to divert the ball wide.

Marcus Bent shot straight at Wright in stoppage time after turning well in the box.

Charlton: Myhre, Spector, Perry, Sorondo, Hreidarsson, Kishishev, Holland, Euell, Thomas, Bothroyd, M Bent.
Subs: Andersen, Rommedahl, Ambrose, Bartlett, Sankofa.
