Weather puts the freeze on Saturday's football

The weather wiped out almost the whole of Saturday's football schedule after two high-profile games were already postponed on Friday.

Only Charlton's home game against Nottingham Forest in the Championship survived the freezing conditions, although perhaps the Addicks wished it hadn't.

Gillingham's League 2 clash against Aldershot at Priestfield was postponed due to a frozen pitch along with Ebbsfleet's FA Trophy clash against Stalybridge at Stonebridge Road.

They were joined at 8.30am Saturday by Welling's FA Trophy trip to Hednesford. Both cup ties will now be played on Tuesday night.

All of the Ryman League matches involving Kent sides have also succumbed, with Canvey v Margate the first game to be called off in the Premier Division. Leaders Dover saw their match with AFC Hornchurch fail a pitch inspection, while Ramsgate's clash with Boreham Wood has been quickly re-arranged for this Tuesday, January 13.

Harlow's home game with Maidstone was postponed and has been re-arranged for Tuesday, January 20, while Dartford's trip to Hastings also went.

Tonbridge's clash at Staines was initially called on after a pitch inspection at 11am - but then that one was also postponed shortly after 2pm.

In Division 1 North, Chatham's match at home to Cheshunt and Thamesmead's trip to Great Wakering failed to beat the cold weather.

Every game in Division 1 South was postponed, including Ashford's home match against Godalming, Sittingbourne against Corinthian Casuals, Folkestone's trip to Walton & Hersham and Whitstable's game at Burgess Hill.

Bromley's home match against Braintree in Blue Square South was called off after an 11am pitch inpection at Hayes Lane.

The Kent Senior Trophy tie between Herne Bay and VCD has already been postponed and Erith & Belvedere's outstanding second round tie was an early Saturday morning casualty. Deal against Tunbridge Wells also fell victim to a frozen pitch.

Sevenoaks' clash at home to West Wickham was postponed and has been re-arranged for Tuesday, January 13.

Hythe's Bulmers Cider Kent League Premier Division Cup quarter-final first leg against Slade Green has been postponed along with the tie between Faversham and Holmesdale.

The Premier Division game between Beckenham and Greenwich was postponed due to a frozen pitch but Erith Town's home match with Croydon passed a morning inspection.

Two matches went in Division 1 and Division 2 of the Kent League while the Kent Intermediate Cup ties at Folkestone and Holmesdale were also off.
