Weekend men's hockey round-up

HOLCOMBE men mounted an impressive second-half fightback to take a share of the points in a 4-4 draw against Indian Gymkhana in their first game of the National Hockey League South Division on Sunday.

Gymkhana raced into a 3-0 lead before Denzil Dolly took advantage of a defensive mistake to pull a goal back just before half-time.

The home side restored their three-goal advantage at the start of the second half, but Gymkhana started to lose their discipline and Dolly took advantage to score his second goal of the match.

Former Canterbury player Dave Matthews added Holcombe’s third before Dolly completed his hat-trick.

BROMLEY & Beckenham men’s 1sts were involved in a ten goal thriller as they kicked off their National League South Division season with a high scoring 5-5 draw at Whitchurch.

The hosts started brightly, surging into a 3-1 lead after 35 minutes with Nick Bluett scoring BromBeck’s goal.

The visitors then had a purple patch, netting four times in a 12 minute spell.

John Brett, Dan Holmes, Bluett and Ian Saunders were all on target, but Whitchurch recovered with two late goals to ensure a share of the spoils.
