CARRUTHERS: coulkd miss the remainder of the season

Cambridge City v Welling

WELLING manager Adrian Pennock, who takes his team to Cambridge City this Saturday, has revealed that Matt Carruthers could be out for the rest of the season.

The tough-tackling Carruthers has a hernia problem. But there's better new concerning Adrian Clarke. He should be be back in the squad within a few days.

Meanwhile, Pennock has set his sights firmly on a play-off place now the club’s interest in the FA Trophy has come to an end.

With no more distractions after a successful cup campaign that saw the Wings reach the first round of the FA Cup and the last 16 in the FA Trophy, Pennock wants his squad to finish on a high.

And he has publicly declared for the first time that nothing less than the play-offs in the Conference South will do.

“The way we can play we are more than capable of making the play-offs,” said Pennock.

“I don’t know how many points we will need because everyone can beat each other but we need to take it one game at a time and go for it.”

* Goalkeeping coach Vince Bartram has signed for the Wings as additional cover for Jamie Turner.
