WELLING boss Adrian Pennock will find out soon if his efforts to sign a new striker have proved successful.

Pennock has been trying to strengthen his forward line after a lack of goals ultimately cost them a play-off place in Conference South last season.

"I’ve been after this player since he was released by his club at the end of last season and I’m waiting for an answer," revealed Pennock.

"It’s an area that I’ve been looking to strengthen."

Negotiations are continuing with Steve Perkins and Martin Carthy, although the latter is yet to decide whether he will continue playing next season.

Pennock added: "Martin is training as a cab driver so is unsure whether he will play on, but if he does then it will be with us."
