WHITSTABLE Yacht Club has been honoured at BBC South East’s annual Sports Awards.

Commodore Jason Wild and vice commodore Wendy Fitzpatrick accepted the Active People Club of the Year trophy from host Geoff Clark at Gillingham’s Priestfield’s Stadium on Monday night, and said it had been a fantastic season.

Mr Wild said: "Membership has reached new heights, we have a world champion and three national champions, an enthusiastic crowd of youngsters in our Cadet section and a thriving sailing school."
