A SUCCESSION of missed chances cost Welling dear as they were beaten by Yeading in Nationwide Conference South on Saturday.

By completing a second single goal victory over the Wings, Yeading became the first side to do the double over Adrian Pennock's side this season.

The home side lost goalkeeper Delroy Preddie to injury after nine minutes but his understudy Luke Blackmore put in an inspired performance.

Welling played with the advantage of a strong wind in the first half, their best chance coming on 17 minutes when Matt Carruthers saw his 25-yard right-foot shot touched over by Blackmore.

Yeading scored what proved to be the only goal of the game four minutes before the break when a horrendous error by Chris Moore let in Lee Roach to net from the edge of the area.

Welling introduced Danny Kedwell for Carruthers at half-time and bombarded the home side for the final half hour.

Che Stadhart curled over in the 60th minute before James Pinnock saw his near post header brilliantly saved by Blackmore a minute later.

Stadhart again failed to convert from close range after 66 minutes before three minutes later Pinnock shot wide on the turn from five yards.

Pinnock was then denied twice in quick succession by Blackmore and it proved the last chance for the Wings, who were badly lacking a cutting edgeup front.
