Eastry youngster Alex Newson produced a superb performance in the Kent county athletics championships at Ashford.

The 14-year-old Sir Roger Manwood's pupil, who competes for Invicta East Kent AC, won Saturday's Under-15 boys' 1500m in a time of 4mins 19secs, which slashed 11 seconds off his personal best and makes him one of the fastest boys in his age group in the UK.

On Sunday, Alex competed in the 800m and finished second in 2mins 11secs
