Addington Village have secured their third promotion in five years in the Shepherd Neame Kent Cricket League – and now they want to put the icing on the cake by winning the league title.

Neil Scott’s side made sure they will finish in the top two in Division 3 with an eight-wicket success over third-placed Chestfield last Saturday, but they are determined to pip second-placed Catford Wanderers for the winners’ medals.

Addington are four points ahead of Wanderers with two matches left and both their final two opponents, High Halstow on Saturday and Downham & Bellingham on September 1, are fighting relegation whereas Catford meet Chestfield and fourth-placed Old Elthamians.

Skipper Scott, right, said: "I would rather play the two teams we’ve got left than the two sides Catford have got to play."

Addington’s matchwinners on Saturday were Ross McDermott, who claimed 5-26 as Chestfield were dismissed for 145, and opener Will Jeffery, who led them to their target with a superb 103.

But over the whole season, their star man has been Australian overseas player Michael Castle, who has hit 715 runs and taken 43 wickets.

Success this season would cap a remarkable rise for Addington, who were in Division 5 in 2008.
