Two men have appeared in court after 300 metres of phone cable was stolen in Aylesford.

Colin Wray, 38, of Coldharbour Lane, Aylesford and 38-year-old Bernard Anthony Prebble, of no fixed abode, have both been charged with theft.

The cable, estimated to have weighed up to 3 tonnes and worth around £10,000 was seized by police after being discovered by a dog walker in Bull Lane, Eccles.

The BT telephone cable had been cut up and was ready to transport.

Police said there had been no reports of disruption to phone services in the area as a result of the theft.

The pair appeared at Sevenoaks Magistrates this morning.
