Aylesford Bulls set up a visit to Twickenham to contest the RFU Intermediate Cup final after coming through a tough semi-final against Berry Hill 13-0 on Saturday.

The London 2 South East side will face Stoke-on-Trent at the home of England rugby on Saturday, May 14.

Gloucestershire side Berry Hill endured a frantic start to the game at the Jack Williams Memorial Ground, which saw them lose their scrum-half to the sin bin after three minutes.

Aylesford soon settled and were given a chance to open their account minutes later. The hosts were awarded a penalty, but Dan Harvey sent his kick narrowly wide. The Bulls did not have to wait long to take the lead when they capitalised on an error to score the opening try of the game. Ben Summers gathered a poor clearance kick and his incisive run was eventually finished by Steve Stewart.

A penalty from Harvey increased Bulls’ advantage and with Berry Hill missing a penalty opportunity of their own, Aylesford went into the break with an 8-0 lead.

The hosts made a bright start to the second half and came close to extending their lead with another penalty, but Harvey’s effort went wide. Berry Hill were then reduced to 14 men shortly after but the Bulls were unable to make the most of the advantage, as Sam Carroll received a yellow card for a high tackle.

Berry Hill pressed Aylesford hard with a succession of kicks deep into the 22 but the home side repelled the attacks.

As the game moved closer to full-time, Aylesford’s resolve grew and they made certain of the victory with a second try just after the hour. Summers breached the Hill defence with another powerful run before passing to Andy Dawling who dived over. Harvey missed the conversion but Aylesford held on for a momentous win.
