Maidstone and Bognor played out a poor goalless draw in the Ryman League Premier Division at Nyewood Lane on Saturday.

Bognor’s Tim Bond and Maidstone’s Roland Edge both went close with first half headers, before the home side should have been awarded a penalty. James Peacock appeared to clip Gary Norgate in the box, but the referee didn’t give the decision.

The Stones had a good chance to take the lead after 54 minutes when Peter Hawkins split the Bognor defence and found James Pinnock (pictured) but, in trying to lob the keeper, he put the ball over the bar.

Bognor were again denied a penalty after Ashley Ulph appeared to foul Sam Tucknott before, at the other end, Jay Saunders’s effort was tipped over by keeper Anthony Ender.

The visitors should have won the game four minutes from time when a good run from Pinnock took him past three defenders, and left him with only the keeper to beat, but he dragged his shot wide of the post.

An impressive Tonbridge comeback came to nothing in a 5-3 defeat at Tooting in the Ryman League Premier Division.

Tooting deservedly took a first half lead when Simon Parker and fired the ball past Angels keeper Lee Worgan.

Carl Rook levelled shortly before half-time, but Tonbridge still ended up going into the break a goal down when Paul Vines lobbed the advancing Worgan.

The second half exploded to life with a flurry of goal. Parker scored his second of the game before Rook struck twice, the second from the penalty spot, to bring Tonbridge level and complete his hat-trick.

But Vines scored again to put the home side back in front, before Aaron Goode settled the game with the fifth.
