Tesco.com tell couple it cannot make Christmas food delivery

A family was almost forced to abandon their Christmas plans after a botched delivery.

Peter and Amy Sendles did their shopping for Christmas dinner on Sunday night from Tesco.com

The couple, who have had deliveries from Tesco to their Tonbridge home for two years, and shopped in store for five years before that, spent £100 on supplies to feed them, their two children, and the grandparents.

They organised for the supplies to be delivered to their house in Chart Hill Road on Tuesday between 7am and 8am, before they went to work.

Unfortunately they then got a call from the Aylesford branch to say the delivery would be late.

As they both work and could not wait, Mrs Sendles asked the depot to ring her 45-year-old husband directly to arrange a new time that afternoon.

This delivery did not come, and Mr Sendles later got a tearful call from his wife saying she’d been told by Tesco the delivery could not be made until after Christmas.

The couple were also told the £100 they had spent would be refunded, but that this process could take up to 10 days, leaving them with no money to buy anything else.

Soon after the Kent Messenger approached Tesco customer services for a comment, Mr Sendles got a call to say his shopping would be delivered after all.

A Tesco spokesman said: “We’re delighted to have found a time for the Sendles’ delivery and hope that they have a very merry Christmas.”
