WB Chambers in Langley, near Maidstone, to supply Aldi supermarkets with fresh fruit

A Kent-based business is preparing for a few busy months ahead – providing the public with plenty of fresh fruit to last the summer.

WB Chambers has supplied Aldi UK stores with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and cherries since 2015.

The family-owned business at Oakdene Farm in Langley, near Maidstone, has been farming since 1952.

They have expanded across the South East over the last few years – now growing fruit in 20 locations.

This summer alone it is expected to supply more than 850,000 crates of fresh fruits to UK supermarkets.

As they developed, WB Chambers has invested in new technologies to meet the increased and changing demand.

From new fruit farms that produce a wider variety of items, to the latest and most efficient lorries to deliver fresh fruit all year round.

The supplier has also installed solar panels on its packhouses to increase its renewable energy consumption.

Third generation owner and managing director Tim Chambers took over the reins of running the family’s farms in 1990, focusing on soft fruit and cherry production.

He said: We now supply to Aldi stores across the country, and it has been great to see our partnership continue to grow in line with the supermarket’s success.

“It has enabled us to expand as a business too and invest into future production and efficiencies with confidence.

“With demand expected to be stronger than ever this year, we will continue to make our processes more efficient so that customers can enjoy our fresh berries up and down the UK.”

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi said: “We are proud to have supported and witnessed WB Chambers’ success over the last eight years.

“Having started out as a much smaller supplier of strawberries and raspberries during the UK season, we are impressed with WB Chambers’ passion for innovation and growth, which has led to it becoming one of Aldi’s top berry suppliers year-round.”
