The killer of a 55-year-old man who died following an attack outside his home last summer has admitted manslaughter.

Business development manager Jason Orwin was fatally injured in the incident in Bower Place, Maidstone, on the evening of July 31.

Lance Colston appeared at Maidstone Crown Court in December accused of murdering Mr Orwin - a charge which he denied.

However, at a later hearing his legal representative entered guilty pleas on his behalf to one count of manslaughter and another of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

The 36-year-old killer, from Tonbridge Road, Maidstone, is now expected to be sentenced on April 19 at Maidstone Crown Court.

Police were called to reports of the assault shortly after 6.30pm and went to the scene alongside paramedics and the air ambulance.

Mr Orwin - who was engaged to be married when he was attacked - was airlifted to King's College Hospital in London where he later died of a bleed on the brain sustained in the attack.

Weeks before his killing, Mr Orwin had suffered a broken hip in a robbery which saw his £10,000 hand-made gold watch stolen.

During the robbery, he was thrown to the ground and as he lay writhing in agony was told by one of his attackers: "Give me your watch or I will cut your throat!"

Alan Mulcahy, 29, of Maidstone Road, Chatham, has now been jailed for three years and seven months after admitting the robbery.

Jack O'Reilly, 30, of Loose Road, Maidstone, received a two-year community order after admitting causing Mr Orwin grievous bodily harm.
