Maidstone United manager Jay Saunders believes work on The Gallagher Stadium will "go down to the wire" but will be done on time.

The first game at the new £2.6million stadium is against Brighton on July 14 and Saunders said: "Speaking to (joint-owner) Terry Casey and (stadium manager) John Harvey the other day there is obviously still a lot of work to do, but I’m sure it will all get done.

"I’ve been down there a couple of times and looked around. I went up to the directors’ box and it’s a great view. The changing rooms were locked up but they’re coming along.

"I’m sure it will all go down to the wire but it’s going to be fantastic when it’s done."

The dugouts were due to be installed before the end of this week, with electrical work expected to begin next week.

The Stones will host Ryman League, Premier Division side Lewes at The Gallagher Stadium on Saturday, August 11. Their first pre-season game is scheduled for July 7 at Kent Invicta League Bearsted.
