Maidstone man dies after falling into harbour on Greek island holiday

A 24-year-old man died after falling into a harbour while on holiday in the Greek island of Kos, an inquest has heard.

An inquest was opened earlier this week into the death of Charles Frederick Williams of Sheridan Close, Maidstone, following his death last month.

Speaking at County Hall, Maidstone, coroner Katrina Hepburn recorded that Mr Williams had died in a 'maritime area', while on holiday with his two sisters.

Ms Hepburn said he had fallen into the harbour in the early hours of the morning of September 8, between 3am and 4am, and had later been found and recovered by a lifeguard at around 6am.

The cause of death was recorded as 1a) drowning.

The coroner said his body had been returned to Kent and adjourned the inquest to 10am on January 10, at County Hall, Maidstone.
