Man remanded in custody in connection with string of fires

A man charged in connection with a string of fires has been remanded in custody.

Marc William Hitchcock had initially been granted bail by magistrates on Saturday, February 19.

The decision was overturned on appeal at Maidstone Crown Court.

Hitchcock, 19, of Oxford Road, Shepway, Maidstone, and Neil Patrick Clark, 34, of Surrey Road, Shepway, Maidstone, have been charged with conspiracy to commit arson and two counts of threats to commit criminal damage.

Both are remanded until Friday, March 4 when they are due to appear for a preliminary hearing at Maidstone Crown Court.

A 22-year-old man also arrested for conspiracy to commit arson has been bailed pending further inquiries until March 31.
