Maidstone: King Street crane jump threat man detained under mental health act

A man has been detained under the Mental Health Act after threatening to jump from a crane in Maidstone.

The man in his 20s was arrested following the stand-off in King Street which started just after 9pm last night.

Passersby reported him repeatedly threatening to throw himself off the structure as the street was cordoned off by officers.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "We were called due to concern for the welfare of a man on a crane in King Street, Maidstone.

"Officers attended and detained the man under the Mental Health Act."

He added officers remained at the scene for just over an hour.
