Man taken to hospital after crash between car and motorbike in London Road, Maidstone

A man has been taken to hospital after a crash between a car and a motorbike.

Police were called to the accident, involving a black Audi A3, shortly before 9am in London Road, Maidstone.

The traffic build-up from the crash added to the already congested A20 this morning, which motorists are using to get round the M20 closure.

A police spokesman said: "A man was said to be injured and taken to a local hospital as a precaution by the South East Coast Ambulance Service."

The force was unable to confirm if the man was the driver of the car or the motorcycle.

At 10pm last night, a four-mile stretch of the motorway was shut in both directions and will not reopen until Monday.

It is to allow for the dismantling of the Teapot Lane bridge, near Aylesford station, as part of a project to turn the stretch of the M20 into a smart motorway.

Motorists have taken to Facebook to describe the "carnage" on the A20 this morning.

One driver said: "Anyone thinking of using the A20 as the M20 diversion... don't. #carnage."

Another said London Road and routes surrounding the Quarry Wood retail park in Aylesford were "chaos", adding "stay in and do housework".
