Maidstone United are ready for the play-offs – even though they could still win the league on the final day of the season.

Stones will be crowned Ryman League Division 1 South champions if they beat Horsham at home and Dulwich lose to Burgess Hill on Saturday.

But boss Jay Saunders expects to finish second which means United will play a one-legged play-off semi-final against Leatherhead, Folkestone or outsiders Ramsgate at the Gallagher Stadium on Tuesday.

Saunders, pictured, said: "Burgess Hill beat Dulwich on the last day of last season when they could have won the league. You never know but they only need a point on Saturday and I can’t see them slipping up again.

"I’ve never been involved in the play-offs before. They aren’t nice but we’re ready for them and the boys are desperate to win promotion.

"I was talking to Junior Kadi (Dulwich assistant) about last season when they missed out on the last day. He said they turned up for the play-offs with their heads down and were half-beaten already.

"We won’t be like that because we expect to be in the play-offs and we have a bunch of lads who are mentally prepared for it."
