Mela makes music a force for good

A calvalcade of colour, a cacophony of sound, a celebration of cuisine and a combination of colour - Maidstone Mela was back for the sixth time.

Thousands attended the festival of music, dancing and food from different traditions around the world but all part of the vibrant culture of the county town.

See for yourself on Steve Bodycomb's video report, above, of the event in Mote Park, Maidstone, on Sunday.

Mayor Denise Joy said: "The Mela can only be a force for good within the borough and is an excellent example of how the arts can be used to promote community cohesion."
