A MAN has died in hospital three days after being struck by a lorry as he crossed the road.

The man, believed to be in his 70s, suffered serious injuries to his head, neck and chest in the incident at the junction of Boughton Lane, Maidstone, and Loose Road at about 4pm on Tuesday.

He died early on Friday morning. He has not yet been named by Kent Police.

The accident caused traffic chaos when police closed Loose Road between the Wheatsheaf roundabout and Boughton Lane to allow access for ambulance crews.

Police also taped off an area outside a parade of shops on Loose Road, where the lorry involved was parked.

An inquest will be held into the man's death.
