Peter Nott hasn’t ruled out a quick return to football despite lasting less than a year as Maidstone manager.

Nott (pictured) guided the Stones to Ryman League Premier Division safety last season - taking over from Lloyd Hume and Alan Walker after almost a decade as reserve team manager - but leaves with the club bottom of the table this season.

He will take a break before deciding whether to return straight back into football.

Nott said: "Since I took over in February, I’ve barely had a day off so I think I owe the wife a holiday.

"I will clear my head and then see how I feel. I’ve been involved in football for a long time and it’s something I need. When I’ve re-charged, I may come back and find I’ve missed it - I’m sure I will. If that’s the case, I’ll try to get back involved as soon as possible."

"Once the dust has settled, if I’m itching for football then I’m sure I’ll be back."

Nott was dismissed from his role on Monday - two days after claiming his side's first home win of the season - but admitted he knew the writing was already on the wall after Oliver Ash’s takeover.

He said: "The fact that I wasn’t asked to a meeting (with the new owners) demonstrated that I was never part of the bigger picture. I knew they were speaking to people about the job."

Andy Ford has replaced Nott as Maidstone manager.
