Maidstone: Investigation begins into cause of derelict building fire in Northumberland Road

An investigation is underway after a derelict building went up in flames.

Firefighters in five fire engines and a height vehicle, police officers and ambulance crews were all called to Northumberland Road in Maidstone at around 11.20pm last night.

The blaze, which was in a two-storey house, is believed to have originated on the ground floor and spread to the first floor and the roof, which was completely destroyed.

The other two floors were damaged by fire and water and the response was scaled down to two fire engines at 1.31am before crews left the scene at 1.50am.

Police and fire chiefs have launched an investigation into the cause of the fire.

Despite the presence of ambulance crews at the scene, there were no reported injuries.
