Residents group Best for Bearsted wins big at Bearsted Parish Council election

A residents group has gained a huge number of seats on Bearsted Parish Council following this afternoon's election count.

Residents group Best for Bearsted, which fielded candidates to take every seat in the council, won 13 of the 15 available.

Richard Ash and Patricia Marshall were also elected but Denis Spooner, who was vice-chairman going into the election, fell more than 400 votes short.

The results were the last to be declared at today's count, which was hosted by Maidstone Leisure Centre in Mote Avenue.

A small group of hopeful candidates remained until the end, with the results being declared more than 90 minutes after the borough council election.

Earlier the Conservative's achieved a net gain of one seat but remain without a majority in the Town Hall.
