Students at Oakwood Park Grammar School in Maidstone can rest assured they are getting a sound education after an Ofsted inspection rated the school either “good” or “outstanding” in every department.

Inspector Christine Jones said: “The school provides a good quality of education that is improving rapidly, and students’ achievement is continuing to rise.

“This is due to the excellent leadership of the head teacher, and good leadership and management at all other levels.”

Ofsted found that students joined the school with levels of attainment well above average. They made good progress in Key Stage 3, particularly in mathematics.

In Key Stage 4, progress continued to be good, with achievement in English improving. Standards in Year 11 were “very high”, with 98 per cent of students gaining five or more GCSEs at grades A* to C.

Ofsted found students with learning difficulties or disabilities received excellent guidance and support and progressed at least as well as their peers.

Teachers were expert and enthusiastic in their subject areas and the pupils were praised for their enthusiasm, high rates of attendance and participation in a wide range of extra-curricular clubs.

Students’ behaviour was excellent and their moral and social development outstanding.

The school’s sixth form was rated “outstanding”, with teachers working in close partnership with the students in an atmosphere of trust that encouraged learning.

Head teacher Kevin Moody said: “We are all very proud of such a positive report. In particular the inspectors graded the school’s evaluation of its strengths and areas of development as outstanding – this is important in showing that we are addressing the right priorities as a school.

“I was particularly impressed with the positive attitude of our students, who once again have impressed visitors to our school with their maturity and desire to do well.”
