M20 accident causing delays between Maidstone A249 and A20 Ashford Road

Traffic has cleared following an earlier accident involving two vehicles on the M20.

The coast-bound carriageway was blocked from junction 8 for the A20 Ashford Road near Leeds Castle and the Maidstone Services to junction 9 for A20 Fougeres Way in Ashford - where Operation Brock restrictions are in place.

A police spokesman said earlier: "Officers were called at 3pm to a report of a collision between two vehicles between junction 6 and 7 on the M20.

"Emergency services are in attendance."

A witness stuck in the queues described seeing three ambulances and a fire engine drive past.

Traffic was initially held while crews dealt with the aftermath of the crash, but all lanes had reopened by 4.30pm.

Congestion remained heavy until about 5pm, when traffic was reported to be flowing freely again.
