Starbucks planning to open in Colman Parade, Maidstone

An international coffee chain is planning to set up shop yards away from two of its biggest rivals.

Starbucks will open in Maidstone’s Colman Parade if a change of use application is approved by Maidstone Borough Council.

The branch would be based just two doors down from Cafe Nero, on the corner of Wyke Manor Road and King Street, and directly opposite Costa Coffee.

The proposal by applicant Cobra Restaurants Ltd would see the catering giant move in to a two storey, 2,884 sq ft unit previously occupied by plus sized women’s clothes retailer, Evans.

However, plans suggest the coffee shop, which will open from 7am until 10pm all week, will only occupy half the total space.

It follows another global eatery’s departure from the road, with Burger King moving further down Week Street to the old C&H Fabrics building last week.

Metro Bank Plc will open in its place later this year.

A decision on the Starbucks application is due on Thursday, June 25.
