Swarm of bees spotted near Maidstone Prison in Hardy Street

A woman was left shocked after seeing “thousands” of bees swarming near a town centre as she walked home.

Raquel, from Maidstone, was walking home from town towards Hardy Street, near the prison, at around 12.40pm when she noticed the buzzing bunch.

She said: “There were thousands of what I think are bees but I thought they might be wasps at first.

“They were everywhere but concentrated mostly in a small area on that road. My video doesn’t capture just how many there were.”

She said that the ordeal was unlike anything she had ever seen before.

“There were some workmen nearby who had also stopped to look and we had a quick chat about it,” she explained.

“A woman with a buggy with a baby in was coming down the road and we told her to be careful as you don’t realise how bad it was until you are in the middle of it – it was quite surreal.”
