Rubbish bins collections in Maidstone postponed because of Queen's state funeral

Due to the Queen’s State Funeral taking place on Monday, there will be no rubbish collections that day.

Maidstone Borough Council has moved all its waste collections dates for next week back a day, so if your wheelie bins would normally be emptied on Monday, don't put them out till Tuesday. If your normal day is Tuesday, put them out on Wednesday and so on, with Friday’s collections taking place on Saturday, September 24. The same goes for garden waste collections.

Cllr Martin Round, the borough's lead member for environmental services said: “Altering the day people have their rubbish collected is not something we usually do, as ordinarily our refuse collectors work on a Bank Holiday.

"However, these are exceptional circumstances.

"Our dear Queen Elizabeth’s funeral is such an historic moment that we need to give all of our staff and contractors the opportunity to pay their respects.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, and collections will return to their normal day from Monday, September 26.”
