A woman has died after an accident on the A20 between West Malling and Wrotham Heath.

The 46 year old motorcyclist from Rochford, Essex was killed when her Honda bike collided with a white Iveco van at about 2.25pm yesterday (Sunday).

It is believed the woman was riding with two other motorbikes in the direction of Wrotham Heath when she collided with the van, which was turning right into Seven Mile Lane.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

One witness to the aftermath described the van as a "seven and a half tonner", and said the motorbike was left with its wheels in the air.

He said Kent Air Ambulance landed in a field at nearby Harpwood Residential Home, and was joined by two other ambulances. At least five police cars attended.

The area is popular with motorcyclists who meet regularly at the nearby Oakdene Cafe on the A20 at Wrotham.

The woman’s family have been notified and the coroner’s office informed. A post mortem examination is expected to be held this week and an inquest will be opened and adjourned afterwards. No further details about the deceased are being released at this time.

Sections of the A20 and Seven Mile Lane were closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and to allow officers from Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit to begin their investigation. The road reopened around 6.30pm.

Police investigating the collision would like to hear from anyone they have not already spoken to who witnessed the incident or who has information. Officers can be contacted via the witness appeal line on 01622 798538.
