GILLINGHAM striker Luis Cumbers has rejected a return to Maidstone.

The forward scored 11 goals for the Stones earlier this season but has instead joined their Ryman League, Premier Division rivals AFC Wimbledon on loan.

Maidstone joint-manager Alan Walker said: "We tried to get him back but the lure of a team in the play-off positions as well as the obvious big crowds meant that we were unable to persuade him to return to us which is obviously bitterly disappointing."

Cumbers started for Gillingham's first team against Oldham only last month and has impressed greatly at Priestfield under the new leadership of Mark Stimson.
